At the indicated time, make your way to Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, where you'll step into 900 years of history. Perched high in the Vosges Mountains, the silhouette of this medieval fortress is sure to leave you in awe.
Built by the Hohenstaufen family in the 12th century, the castle has seen centuries of conflict, changing hands between influential rulers such as the Habsburgs in the 15th century. Each owner left their mark, shaping the castle into what it is today.
After being abandoned for centuries following its destruction in the Thirty Years' War, the Château was restored in 1900 by Wilhelm II of Germany. His dream of reviving the Middle Ages led him to entrust the restoration to Bodo Ebhardt, an expert in medieval fortifications. Today, the castle stands not only as a historical monument but as an educational landmark, visited by over half a million people each year.
With your ticket, you'll embark on a self-guided tour of this fascinating fortress. Step into the lower courtyard and explore the castle's inn, forge, and mill. Climb the spiral staircases to the lord’s furnished chambers, cross ancient drawbridges, and wander through rooms steeped in history. You'll leave with a newfound understanding of the castle's past as a powerful mountain stronghold.

Final admission is 1 hour before the castle closes. Please note that the castle is closed on January 1st and December 25th and 26th.
Please note that, throughout the year, on Mondays the opening will take place at 10:30 am.
On the first Sunday of each month from November to March, and during European Heritage Days, admission is free for all visitors.
